Welcome to my new blog, Hexagonal Peg (click on the About section to see more about this blog name). This is a blog devoted to detailing my family’s path toward a more global perspective as we embark on our new adventure: hosting an orphaned child from Eastern Europe this summer!
Orphanages in Eastern European countries shut down during the summer months, and all the children are placed in programs for that time. Some go to summer camps hosted in old Soviet retraining camps; some go to rural foster families in their home countries; some attend camps or programs in Spain, Italy, and other Western European countries; and some come to the United States through a program run by New Horizons for Children.
The goal of this program is to place children in Christian homes for five weeks. The children learn the equivalent of 4-5 years of English in that time, and for those who are adoptable, have a 60% chance of finding a forever home through the program.
Little Man and I are extremely excited about this opportunity, and I will be giving more details over the next few weeks as well as blogging our experience and where this desire came from.
Today, I took the first step and filled out the Pre-approval application online. Now I need your help for the next step: raising money to host this child. The cost of hosting is around $4000-5000 for the cost of the child’s flight and necessities for his stay. The host family also provides the child with vision and dental exams as well as filling two suitcases with clothing and supplies for him to take home with him.
Will you please consider partnering with me on this journey, either through prayer or monetary support? All donations are tax deductible, and you can donate through Paypal by clicking on the button on the right-hand side of this page. The first payment of $550 will be due at the beginning of February. Please consider giving to help this child!
If you are interested in more information on this program, please click on the link to New Horizons for Children on the right side of this page. I will be providing additional information through this blog as well.
